It is not always that you enjoy the fruit of your labor. The reason that you landed on this article is probably that you are putting in your best efforts to have a slim belly. You might be working out, maintaining a diet and doing everything right but somehow you are not able to see expected results. So, here are 5 minor things that we are likely to neglect, which are responsible for those extra inches that just don’t seem to go away.
Reasons Why You Don’t Have A Flat Belly
1. Eating too much before a workout
You cannot be full when you work out. You need to munch on a small snack, probably something with a little protein or healthy fat. So that it preps you for the workout session. You can have a handful of nuts, or a protein smoothie for a snack.
2. You have water weight
Think of it as your body cells getting ‘filled’ with the water you intake. This leads to water retention in the body and hence makes you look fatter than you actually are. Too much sodium and fluctuating hormones are the most common causes of water retention. You might be tempted to think that consuming lesser water is the way to fix it. Actually, it is the exact opposite. You should drink plenty of water and stay hydrated so as to balance the salt concentration in your body.
3. Crunches won’t just cut it
You should focus more on Pilates exercises for the best results as they help to work the “deepest layers of the abdomen”. Planks, burpees and other exercises that work up your core as well as the whole body are also a good option. Also, in addition to the workout, you need to keep an eye on your diet. Avoid too much-refined carbohydrates like rice, bread, and pasta. Basically, no white! Absolutely no sugary foods and alcohol.
4. Lack of sleep
When you are sleep deprived, your appetite increases. Lack of sleep can mess with your blood sugar level and the rate at which you burn calories. The earlier to bed, the healthier. Take your 7-hour beauty sleep!
Nowadays, pretty much everyone has stress. From students stressing over studies to adults being constantly stressed over work and deadlines, everyone faces this problem. Our modern lifestyle has made stress unavoidable.
When you are stressed, your body releases a stress hormone called cortisol which can increases insulin levels in the body. As a result, your body sugar drops and you crave for sugary and fatty foods, hence adding those extra inches to your waist.
Bottom-line, fat or not, each individual is beautiful in their own unique way. But, if you are one of those persons who like to stay fit and slim, then you should consider the above factors and try and make some healthy lifestyle changes so that you can have the belly of your dreams.
