The dark matter presents modern science, a lot of challenges. As the dark matter is the biggest mysteries, as to prove its existence we have to detect it. The carbon-based diamond absorber shows some potential.
What is Dark Matter
The Dark matter remains the biggest mysteries of science even today as they even exist is difficult to prove. By fitting a theoretical model of the composition of the universe to the combined set of cosmological observations, scientists have come up with that dark matter comprises of almost 85% of the whole universe. It’s still one of the biggest mysteries of modern science. These are heavy mass particles with almost negligible interaction between them also called WIMPs.These are not in the form of any stars and planet or any gas cloud as we see. The dark matter could in fact be a possible explanation of the variation of gravity in some phenomena in outer space.
How a diamond detector can help in detecting dark matter
Detectors containing the crystals could spot potential dark matter particles with relatively low masses, the researchers report in the June 15 Physical Review D.
The dark matter content of a subatomic particle called WIMPs. These are weakly interacting particles that are massive in nature. The diamonds detector can detect somewhat those WIMPs which are less massive. At critical temperature (0K or –273.15° Celsius ) they are outfitted with sound waves detector. as the dark matter collides with the nucleus or the electron of the diamond. The diamonds are proving helpful in detecting lighter dark matter particles.
Diamonds are made up of carbon atoms. Which are lighter than silicon or Aluminium, it can be concluded. It can also detect dark matter, which is composed of WIMPs having negligible interaction between them.
