Ever since the Railway Minister launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan in 2016, cleanliness at railway stations has improved tremendously. The campaign was introduced in the 2015-16 railway Budget and the survey is conducted 407 major railway stations which include 75 A1 category and 332 A category for cleanliness ranking. The survey is commissioned by the Environment & Housekeeping Management Directorate – Railway Board, Ministry of Railways and Indian Railway Catering And Tourism Corporation. It also included the feedback of passengers based on cleanliness and experience at the station. Accordingly, to the recent survey, the following are the cleanest railway stations in India.
The survey states that Jaipur has been ranked first in the Station Cleanliness Survey 2019 with an overall cleanliness score of 931.75.
Jodhpur railway station has managed to bag the cleanest railway station in India for the second consecutive year in a row. A senior officer of the Jodhpur NWR division reported to a reputed news agency on the specific measures taken to maintain the cleanliness in the station. Toilets have been built in the parking area and defaulters are shamed as they are blown whistles at. Around 150 staff members work in shifts to maintain the hygiene of the station with the help of 27 machines. In order, to motivate the sanitation workers, programs are held to make them realize that they are responsible for maintaining the cleanest railway station in the country.
Durgapura railway station is a railway station on the North-Western Railways network in the state of Rajasthan. It is located approximately 8 Km from Jaipur railway station. The station was ranked third in the Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat 2019 survey about the cleanliness of railway stations.
4. Jammu Tawi
The Jammu Tawi Railway station has been ranked as the third cleanest railways station among the 75 busy stations in the country. Clean tracks, clean toilets at platforms and clean dustbins at stations were some of the criteria for judging the cleanliness of the railway stations.
5. Gandhinagar Jaipur
Gandhinagar Jaipur railway station is located in Jaipur in the Bajaj Nagar area of the city. It is close to Tonk Road and Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg (Jaipur) and mainly caters to the southern areas of the city. Many trains to and from Delhi have a stoppage at this station. It is ranked based on different parameters, and the process also involved taking feedback from passengers and direct observation by third-party assessors. Suburban stations were included for the first time in the survey.
Suratgarh railway station is the main railway station in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. The station lies on the Jodhpur-Bathinda line and is well connected to the rest of India. It is declared as the sixth cleanest railway station in India after passing various parameters of cleanliness.
As per the latest station cleanliness survey conducted in 2019 Vijaywada has slipped to the seventh rank below Suratgarh station in terms of cleanliness under A1 category stations. Earlier, the Vijaywada railway station stood on the fifth rank in terms of cleanliness.
8. Udaipur City
Udaipur railway station is currently under North-Western railways of Indian railways. It is situated on the Udaipur Road, around 2.5 km from the city center, and around 25 km from Udaipur Airport. According to the survey conducted by the Quality Council of India; it is ranked as the eighth cleanest railway station in India. The basis of criteria used for the same is parking, main gate, platform, waiting room, management of tracks, dustbins, toilets on platforms, etc.
Ajmer railway station is located in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan. It is one of the cleanest railway stations among the cleanest railway stations in Rajasthan including Jaipur, Udaipur city, Gandhinagar Jaipur, Jodhpur and Durgapura.
It is one of the railway stations in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India. This station falls under the Moradabad division of the Northern Railway zone of the Indian Railways. It has been declared as the tenth cleanest railway station in India. Reported in a railway cleanliness survey carried out by the QCI based on observation and consumer feedback.
Based on the average scores of the respective stations, the top railway zones were also declared; with North-Western Railway, South-East Central Railway and East Central Railway leading the list.
