Can Homeopathy Help In Treating Anxiety

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine created in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann, based on his doctrine of like curses like, a claim that a substance that causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people would cure similar symptoms in sick people.Homeopathy is a pseudoscience – a belief that is incorrectly presented as scientific. Homeopathic preparations are not effective for treating any condition large-scale studies have found homeopathy to be no more effective than a placebo, indicating that any positive effects that follow treatment are not due to the treatment itself but instead to factors such as normal recovery from illness.

What does research say?

Several research have been conducted regarding homeopathy and its treatment for anxiety. High-quality research supporting homeopathy is few and far between. This goes for homeopathy for anxiety, too.

Homeopathy is difficult to study within medicine. When it does appear to work, it’s often attributed to the placebo effect. The placebo effect doesn’t prove that there were no real symptoms, rather it gives testimony to the power of the mind over the body.

Dr. Banerjee says that the time taken to recover from anxiety by homeopathic medicines depends from person to person. “Some patients may completely recover within a few days of treatment whereas those suffering from severe anxiety for several years may take longer.” He supported homeopathic therapy for anxiety because they do not have side effects.

Homeopathy is a safe option as most of the homeopathic medicines are made from natural products only. But one should not completely rely on homeopathic medicines for severe anxiety problems. It cannot take the place of medicines prescribed by mainstream doctors as both have their own roles to play.

If your anxiety doesn’t improve with homeopathy or you experience side effects, discontinue use altogether. See your doctor as soon as you can.
